Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a large-scale physics experiment to detect gravitational waves. LIGO is a joint project between scientists at MIT, Caltech, and many other colleges and universities. Scientists involved in the project and the analysis of the data for gravitational-wave astronomy are organised by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration which includes more than 900 scientists worldwide. And it seems the Scientists are using Linux(Ubuntu) for their experiments.

Ubuntu used to experiment Gravitational Waves

It’s not really admiring that Linux is being used to experiment Gravitational waves at LIGO. Just a couple of weeks ago we saw that Ubuntu was being used to interpret the data from the Hubble Space Telescope. But the fact that scientists choose Linux systems for their work has to do with the fact that it’s a stable, secure, and reliable operating system, no matter the distro.
